With the special feature DVD release of Two Weeks In coming up, the guys over at Board The World were nice enough to talk to me about the process of producing an Australian snowboard film. As is typical for me, I rambled on a bit but don’t worry about the words. Board The World have somehow managed to get Dan Himbrechts to give ‘em some new photos from the trip that I’d never seen before. Nate Johnstone is so damn good ( I think he can fly?) and you know Marc and Jake always look good..

issue-2-08-cover

The shoutbox has been asking for it, and now it’s here. Out today at your friendly neighborhood newsagent is issue 2 of ‘Australian & New Zealand Snowboarder’ complete with bonus cover mounted ‘Two Weeks In…’. What you see above is the web-sclusive first peek at the cover. Issue Two features interviews with Jake McCarthy, Charles Beckinsale, and has a Montreal rail story featuring Tom Pelley, all these guys have a full part in “Two Weeks In…’. If you missed the premieres, this is the first chance you’ll have to see the film. If you just can’t part with your $8.50, just wait a while longer till mid next month when you can pick it up for free along with issue 10 of POP. The POP edition of ‘Two Weeks In…’ will also include Bonus Features, Commentary, and maybe even a special edit. You will have to wait and see.

Here’s some shots I took of my friends at the after party. Not really public enough to post on the main POP website but seeing as this blog is kinda my more casual thing, I thought some of you might be interested enough to warrant me posting them.

If any of you at the Melbourne premiere thought that the film played a little late, let me tell you about my 3 day battle to get the film ready for the Melbourne premiere. However first I just want to say how bummed I am at myself for not having a High Definition copy of the film to play at the Melbourne premiere. That was always a big goal for me. I blew it.

Here’s some snaps I shot at the Sydney premiere. As you can see, not the greatest turnout but you can’t win ‘em all. The next day I had to drag Jake and Tom to the FuelTV studios where Anthony and Tak asked us a bunch of questions about what’s it’s like to film a snowboarding film, did Gus St Leon survive that fall etc… It was really nerve racking sitting in a full blown studio setup, but the guys where great. I on the other hand, struggled with the promo line. So if you see me on FuelTV in August crapping on about Two Weeks In, please know I know I suck.

Here’s a time lapse of the crowd at the Melbourne premiere for Two Weeks In. We started it half way through the night because we had to run home and get the fish-eye lens. I would say there was between 100 and 400 people there. I think we can all agree on that wide range. No? How about less than 400 but more than 50? Ok we’ll go with that. Between 50 and 400 people turned up… I think.

So after a lot of hardwork and countless hours in the editing room, we decided to release the intro to Two Weeks In instead of a trailer. It’s the first 5 minutes of the film, we think you guys are going to love it. We have hijacked the POP site with it for the next few days, but you can also get to the mini-site at www.popmag.com.au/twoweeksin/intro/. The premieres are happening across the country so if you want to see the rest, come on down.

So I finished editing the film. We’ve all been working like mad to get an edit done for the front cover of Australian & New Zealand Snowboard magazine. I was up for 30 hours straight trying to get as much polished as I could. ACP (the company that owns Aus/NZ Snowboard) have been really hard on us with demands and deadlines so I’ve had to cut a few corners but all in all, it’s good to have it finished. Now I can work on getting the trailer up online and re-editing and color-correcting for the POP Magazine version and the premieres. For those of you that aren’t familiar with video editing the above screen shot is of the finished edit in Final Cut spread across my two monitors. With titles and credits the film came in a little long than I would have liked. 42 and a half minutes. However, I don’t think that’s a bad thing. If you’ve got any questions about editing, filming or the film in general, leave a comment and I’ll do my best to help you out.

So we had the posters for the premiere’s printed today. There’s a different one for each state featuring Nate Johnstone, Tom Pelley and Gus St Leon. They’re only A3 in size. I tried to keep them in the same style as the website. We made 100 of them total so if you’re into collecting these sorts of things you’ll have to ask Triggers, SnowBiz or ESS for them.
