PRESS RELEASE:

Frying Pan Inn Coca Cola Big Air

The Falls Creek Big Air has always been extreme, and this year was no exception! With extremely low visibility and increasing wind speeds the towering 50 and 35 foot jumps stood untouched, as Big Air competition was called off over safety concerns.

With such strong riding talent in town, there was no way the show could be shut down. The event was quickly transformed into a Rail Jam, utilising the 41ft low triple barrel street rail, which is just another feature of the Ruined Castle Terrain Park.

The talent was pumped and so were the spectators who witnessed our best up and coming snowboarder, Darcy Plant, 13, showing that he is a force to be reckoned with, pulling off front side 50/50 to front 180 out. Albury boy Hugh Zerbst was sending it huge, attempting 450’s on, and impressing judges enough to take out the aggressor award.

Snowboarder Adrian Pelly took out 1st place for the cold hard cash, followed by local boys Kieren McLaughlin and Jeremy Burns. The girls were well represented by Jess Rich who not only took out 1st place but also best overall snowboard trick. She beat the boys with a back one eighty on tail slide swivel revert out. Local park crew Jade McJannett snatched second place and Canadian Janelle LeClair flipped in for third.

With an extremely long rail, judges were looking for skiers who could handle the length and the Buller Riders delivered! Sliding into the 3 male medal positions were Watkin McLennan, Ryley Lucas and Ollie Immers. Ollie also took our best ski trick with a switch up blind 450.

Female skiers were Torie Hamilton-Wilson in first, followed by Anna Segal, both stars again, carving it up from Buller.

The Dragon after party at Frying Pan Inn was a huge success with a large pool of prizes from the sponsors – Frying Pan Inn, Coca Cola, Dragon, Chiko Roll, Nixon and Whereis.

Massive thanks to our sponsors, judges, commentator “Thomo” and groomers who put a lot of work into supporting our event. An outstanding performance was delivered from the Falls Creek Race and Events department proving that they are ready to handle and adapt to anything.

For all that came, saw and had a go, good on you, for those that didn’t… see you at Stylewars 22-25th of August! Get up here and live it up in Falls Creek!
