You may or may not have heard that the iPhone 3.0 software was previewed yesterday morning at Apples HQ. For those regular readers of the site, you might be aware of our disappointment in the iPhone so far (although I’m leaning towards more of the issues being with Optus rather than Apple)… Well, I have to say I’m actually pretty excited about the new software. Many of the issues and faults with the phone at Apple’s end have been corrected with this update and a tonne of new features have been added. Check below the cut for a quick list of features in the new software that I though were useful updates… And Otpus, take notice – you need to improve your network or we’re leaving!
Using the iPhone as a tethered modem – Waiting on details from carriers to see if this will be available in Aus.
Push notification – use IM’s etc. over push. Keeps yoyr battery alive longer than if they alowed apps to run in the background.
Cut, Copy and Paste – Self explanatory.
CalDAV & .ics calendar subscriptions – I’m not sure how many people use this but it’s awesome for setting meetings and making sure everyone is on the same page.
Spotlight – find whatever you want on your iPhone as easy as you do on your Mac.
Notes Sync – sync your notes!
Peer to Peer – You can find other iPhones using Bluetooth. It’s demo’d as a games thing but can be used in other useful ways like contact sharing, etc.
Email more than one photo – YES! I’ve got a tonne of shots on my phone which would be going nowhere cause I get sick of sending them one at a time.
Landscape keyboard for email, etc. – Self explanatory.
MMS – Yep – this is pretty useless if you have email happening but there are people out there still stuck using Nokia’s so it helps to keep in touch with them I guess.
Voice Memos – there’s already apps to do this but it’s a neat addition.
