U.S. Sees Record $3.3 Billion In Sales Last Season
Here’s a bit of good news to start the week… The U.S. has seen a record season in sales for snow sports gear. There was a total of US$3.3 billion in sales made – $300 million up on the previous record set over the ’07-’08 northern winter. Chris Clark, the director of marketing for skiing/mountaineering company Scarpa said, “… In general, sales mirrors snowfall. DC Reveals New Logo And Signs Mikey Taylor
DC have unveiled their new logo last week. The flag design was a huge change for the brand and anyone who’s seen footage from Street League last weekend can see how well this is going to work for them – the crowd was filled with crew waiving the flag! Rip Curl Buys Ozmosis Stores
Rip Curl announced they had purchased the 19 store Victorian chain, Ozmosis. This is the second major retail acquisition for Rip Curl and follows a big industry push into retail over the last few years led by Billabong who has purchased major chains world wide over the last year and a bit. French Fashion House Buying Volcom
The French owners of brands like Puma, YSL and Gucci look set to buy Volcom in a deal worth US$607.5 million. PPR have offered US$24.50 per share for 100% of the company – the deal has been unanimously recommended to shareholders by the Volcom board. The deal values founder and CEO Richard Woolcott’s piece of the company at over US$60 million – not bad at all! There is more information due this afternoon but the press release announcing the merger is below the cut.
