Sam Newman Ordered off TV

In what can surely been seen as a victory for skateboarders everywhere, controversial AFL television personality Sam Newman has been ordered off the air indefinitely. Read on for the complete story.

The move (do we call it a sacking?) has followed on from a skit that had Sam "manhandleding a lingerie-clad mannequin on which he had stapled a picture of The Age newspaper’s chief football writer Caroline Wilson". Apparently this wasn’t funny (no shit!?) to Dr Susan Alberti, a prominent Melbourne businesswoman and an AFL Western Bulldogs board member who has launched defamatory action against Newman, the Nine Network, and the show’s co-host Garry Lyon.

When Sam was given the chance to apologise, keeping to his high moral standards, he replied (on live television no less), "They serve very little purpose at board level. What do they do? I’m not knocking women (but) for very little input they demand a lot of clout". It appears Sam does not understand that you can’t just ad in a "I’m not knocking woman" line in there, when, in fact he clearly is knocking woman and their role in the workforce.

Despite the 40,000 woman that have turned away from the show following the skit, Nine has said Newman was being taken off the show because he needed time to get over the prostate surgery he underwent 12 weeks ago, and have steered away from the incident. It is this authors opinion we haven’t seen the last of Sam Newman and that Channel Nine will ultimately care more about the $25,000 per 30 second commercial they get for the Footy Show, than they do about Woman’s Rights.
