EN-ZED, bro

Day 1 & 2

Well its taken forever, but I finally made myself return to New Zealand. I haven’t been here for almost a decade and don’t really have a good reason why. I will try to update everyday or so, because it’s a pretty good time over here and want you to know what your missing out on. I promise not to laden this entry with rants, but I’ll start with just one.

FUCK AIRLINES.

NZ is not even far away, but it was $240 in excess baggage, 14 hours, two plane flights, and two bus rides before I even got to Wanaka. On top of that, my second flight was supposed to land in Queenstown, but the pilot had other ideas and I ended up here…

Google this place, it’s about as far south as you can go without hitting Antarctica. Lucky for me I had a friend for the epic voyage (to return the ring… sorry, couldn’t help myself) and now know all her favorite foods, like apples with peanut butter.

Got in to Wanaka at about 10p.m after waking at 4a.m to catch my flight, was so happy that curry shop was open and could eat. Unfortunately, I then had to perform one of the least baller things I have ever done. Because my ghetto prison cell is one of the least equipped places in history and had to eat my dinner with the ring pull off my ginger beer. Baallllin.

About that ghetto room, it’s not that bad. For $130 a week I wasn’t expecting fountains and Siberian Tigers, but a working heater and some safe wiring would have been nice. Check it out, it’s kind of like a prison with a nicer bed.

It worked for sleeping.

After a well deserved snooz, I jumped the bus to Snowpark. If you haven’t been there, you should go, soon. The place is AMAZING. Maybe i got lucky, but there were no crowds, pretty much bluebird. The park setup looked like this.

Small jump line with rail line behind.

QP, wallride, flat down and down bar.

Bottom table, probably 50ft or so.

Middle table, 40ft-ish.

Tall flat bar, water tank bonk.

Now keep in mind I missed the top stair set, another stair set, two rail lines, and a super pipe. It’s pretty serious.

I caught up with Robbie Walker, Ryan Tiene, and Jake Koia who did a mighty good job making me look shit considering they were taking it easy. Here is a tiny clip of Tiene and Koia having some tandem fun on one of the many boxes.

That’s it for now. Probably hit bed in a second and start all over tomorrow. Day 1 of 5 riding days over, check back if you want.
