This week, in the news, we have a vast array of geek pranks, Apple’s iPad launch and the iPhone 4.0 OS, a Geelong group scaring the shit out of kids for Easter and one Kelly Brook… Have a great week!
Geek Pranks – April Fools has come and gone but a good office prank is always funny and there’s a few geek specific ones that have something special about them… Setting up the ‘Blue Screen of Death’ screen saver on a co-workers computer, or screenshotting their desktop and setting it as the wallpaper before removing their shortcuts is another that is sure to get a laugh. Peep more over the link.
Apple Kicks Into Gear – Not content with a successful launch of the iPad over the weekend (over 300,000 served apparently) Apple have announced and event for this week looking at the next version of the iPhone software. Everyone is backing multitasking finally making an appearance and an update on the graphics. Will be interesting to see what’s coming.
Scare Them Into Church – The most awesome story from the weekend was a bunch of nutjob’s in Geelong attempting to recreate the crucifixion in a busy shopping centre complete with fake blood. Apparently it was a little too real and caused quite a ruckus with small children bursting into tears thinking that the guy on the cross was really hurt. A spokesperson for the group said, “I thought I was in a country that was free, where we’re allowed to express our religious beliefs,” and they are totally right. By the way, my religious beliefs include strippers and beer – let’s do that in a public shopping centre and see how the ‘Heaven on Earth’ church folks like it…
Esquire on Drugs in California – I noticed the argument over pot in the shoutbox the other day and then came across this interesting article. California is on the verge of semi-legalizing marijuana – this gives the state the ability to regulate and tax it. Experiments in other countries have shown that making it a legal commodity can actually reduce the use, particularly in younger teens… However, it is still a narcotic that has terrible effects on the brain if you smoke it at a young age (I spoke to a teacher recently who said that she had recently found three students who regularly smoked pot between the age of 12 and 16, who all now have schizophrenia – as far as I know, the link is unproven but it’s enough to scare me). What’d you guys think – is legalization the way to go?
