What a huge couple of weeks! It’s been a pretty amazing time, with too many parties, the different locations- Bells, 13th Beach, Winki Pop and Johanna, lay days and considerable lack of swell the event was challenge and a success with the whole event team putting in a massive effort and surfer’s doing what they do best.

Kelly “the wizard” Slater pulled out an amazing bag of tricks to claim his fourth Rip Curl Pro title against current World Champ Mick Fanning at the beautiful Johanna Beach, which provided glassy 3-4ft waves all day.

Mick started out strong with a 7.17 shredding a wave all the way to the rocks, however Kelly threw down a massive alley-oop with almost no feet on the board to land and score a 8.93 followed by another excellent wave with a massive snap-reverse posting an 8.10 and leaving Mick unable to find the waves needed to beat him.

I’ll be putting together a selection of my favourite sequences this week so keep an eye out.
