Sorry for the lateness in this weeks gallery… Public holidays always screw with my time table. This week, in the news, the Wikileaks video scandal gets bigger with soldiers involved apologizing to the kids caught in the battle, Gizmodo get a visit from the po-po after breaking the iPhone 4G (or whatever they’re calling it) story, get better sleep through limiting electronics at night, some rip-offs from the China Auto show and Bond girl, Olga Kurylenko. Have a good week!
US Soldier In Wikileaks Video Interviewed – One of the soldiers involved in the incident with the journalists, a camera mistaken for an RPG, a family trying to help wounded civilians and 30mm rounds fired from an Apache Attack Helicopter, has been interviewed by Wired. The soldier has written a letter to two children caught up in the fire fight apologizing for his part in the system that took their father… Pretty heavy reading.
Gizmodo & The Po Po – So, last week you would have seen the leaked iPhone 4G which was all over the web thanks to the skills of Gizmodo and their cheque book. Well, the story is getting better as the police turned up at editor Jason Chen’s place while he was out and let themselves in to take a look around. I would guess that Apple is seeking to dissuade others from following a similar line in the future by going after the guys – but the legality of buying an item that wasn’t owned by the seller was previously mentioned by Engadget editor, Joshua Topolsky. So it should be an interesting time for the guys there.
Late Night Electronics Ruin Sleep – I used to read emails till late at night and sleep with my phone next to me but found that I was checking emails as they came through at all hours of the night which screwed my sleep patterns. So a while back I took to switching off my phone around 9 or 10 pm and avoiding the laptop after that time… The result? Vastly improved sleeping. Lifehacker has an interesting article on why that works.
Chinese Car Rip-Offs – Ever wanted a Rolls Royce Phantom but lack the necessary cheddar? Never fear, there’s plenty of Chinese auto companies making their own versions of a lot of iconic cars and they come in at a fraction of the cost… Phantom rip starts at about AU$70,000 and has an amazing single seat in the back.
And Finally – James Bond has finally been stopped – not by Dr. Julius No, Le Chiffre or Odd Job but by the financial peril MGM finds itself in. I’m sure there’s a future plot line in there somewhere – James Bond comes up against financial ruin engineered by Berni Madoff perhaps? Hollywood, I await your call. Anyway, I decided I’d go with the latest Bond girl, Olga Kurylenko this week… Enjoy!
