For some readers, Marty McFly might have been the first skateboarder you saw (yes Michael J. Fox actually learnt how to skateboard). I know he certainly had an impact on my childhood. Then when Part II dropped, that Hoverboard scene just took shit to another level. Obviously it did too for French artist Nils Guadagnin. He created this real life Hoverboard in 2008 for an exhibition aptly named “Back To The Future”. The board actually hovers thanks to an integrated electromagnetic system in the board and plinth which causes the board to levitate. It gets better, a laser system stabilises the object in the air. A Hoverboard with lasers? We are in the future. Video below of both the real, and the sort of real Hoverboard in action.
