Last Saturday night I fronted up to the first ESS Romp, Stomp and Two Smoking Rails event in Castle Hill, North Sydney. For a first event it went really well. There were teething problems with the setup (whoever the build crew were on the rail, they set the crowd fencing too close to the sides of the setup meaning that both side ledges were pretty much a no-go) but the crowd were getting into it, with a few non-riders converted by the end of the night. The competitors did a great job considering they were not in ideal conditions as the landing had only meters to the barriers. Tom McGrath was the overall winner – Good work Tom! Looking forward to seeing this event again next year – Thanks to ESS for having me along! To peep some photos of the night – click ‘read more’.
It’s a big setup! Pity about the side rails…
They got a good turn out.
Tom heading for a win!
The short stopping distance made for some classic facial expressions from both crowd and riders alike.
The after party at what is surely one of Sydney’s finest watering holes… The Tav!
Hmmm… Yep, the guy in the grey/black hood is keeping a close eye on ‘things’.
This girl bet me $50 she could get a couple of snowboarders to wear girls clothes, drink girls drinks and smile about it. I owe her!
