PRESS RELEASE:
(Irvine, Calif.) August 12, 2010 — Rusty North America (www.rusty.com) has announced an expansion of its athlete roster with the signing of skateboarder, Joey Brezinski. The association with Brezinski marks the return of Rusty to skateboarding and the launch of a signature collection by Joey called “so R.AD.” The collection includes Joey’s own signature Wired Series designs and an assortment of tees that will be released later this year to select retailers. The “so R.AD” designs will incorporate his irreverent personality and feature his beloved dog, Pizza, as the collection’s mascot.
Known as much as for his creative personality as his technical manual skills, the “Manny King” has been a familiar face on a number of skate videos, including a role as the only American skater on the French-based Cliche skate team’s 2006 video, “Hello Jojo!” In 2009, Transworld Skateboarding selected Joey to be one of five skaters featured in their video, “Right Foot Forward.” His skills are so advanced that Red Bull created Manny Mania, the first-ever manual-based contest, giving Joey creative license on the event. Today, Manny Mania is a worldwide contest series sponsored by Red Bull for both professional and amateur skaters.
“The best way for Rusty to continue to appeal to youth culture is through great product and amazing athletes,” said
Charlie Setzler, President of Rusty North America. “We have a solid product in the Wired Series featuring HB3 technology, which has resonated with the skate community. We also have a unique athlete in Joey — he is supremely talented and passionate about our product and our brand.”
“Rusty has a legacy in skateboarding, with stars including Tony Hawk, Steve Berra, Arto Saari, Ed Templeton, among others, on the team over the years,” continued Setzler. “Bringing Joey on board made all the sense in the world and we’re excited for what’s ahead.”
The signature collection will be introduced in a series of phases. Phase I, comprised of graphic tees and Wired Series fleece, was introduced at Agenda Huntington Beach last week to an amazing response. The collection will be available in stores by November and is currently sold out heading into the Action Sports Retailer (ASR) show this weekend.
A more comprehensive Phase II will be introduced at ASR for a February delivery.
Rusty has plans to expand the assortment of Brezinski-focused apparel into other categories as well for Summer/Fall 2011.
