UCSD Students To Create Ultimate Surfboard

A group of UC San Diego research students are on assignment to create the ultimate surf board. The four undergraduates from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the UC San Diego outfitted a surfboard with eight sensors and an onboard-computer with the goal of measuring the flex and velocity. They hope this might lead to better designed materials and boards. It all gets a little complicated when they start talking about fluid-structure interaction, but it’s pretty interesting.
