Young Guns 3 Review.

Rating: 8 out of 10
Director: Jason Muir
Riders: Clay Marzo, Dane Reynolds, Ry Craike, Jeremy Flores, Garrett Parkes, Kelly Slater, Julian Wilson

From the outset I was a little skeptical about the video, purely because surf video’s have lacked any real innovation for a while now. However, from the opening part by Clay Marzo I was pretty hooked. While we’re not talking Mack Dawg style innovation, there are flashes of semi-brilliance where the camera men have got creative. The last shot in Young Guns new comer, 15 year old Garrett Parkes’ part is a dusk shot with colours only along the horizon and finishes with him silhouetted against the sky – not bad. The G-Land section where there is a camera mounted on Clay is good too. Some of my favorite shots were during Kelly Slaters section simply because there was lower light and overcast skies which made for a contrast to the rest of the film. Ry Craike and Jeremy Flores sections are really fun, particularly when Ry is hitting the beach breaks. Dane Reynolds section is amazing and I found it way more fun to watch than his feature film, First Chapter. Some of the linking sections between parts comes off a little awkward, I don’t really want to hear another kid telling me how sexy he is or listen to the English language being slaughtered by some bizarre surf slang (Kelly Slater speaks regular English and look where he is… Take the hint kids). But overall the film was probably one of the best surf films I’ve seen in while and is well worth adding to the collection. Click the above graphic to peep the trailer.
