Apparently the UK’s flag carrier, British Airways, made a decision earlier this year that as of November 6th they would no longer be accepting surfboards on their flights. According to their website, which still lists them as being banned items, it has to do with the “size and complexity” of handling these – but it was not a problem for them to ship your long-bow, rifle, diving gear, skiing gear or a set of golf clubs – all of which they will ship free of charge! This decision was reversed yesterday after an onslaught of pressure from the British Surfing Association and International Surfing Association… Good on you guys! I once read that out of Australia, surfboards are the second most carried piece of sporting equipment… Number one was golf clubs. True story!
