Fallen Footwear’s ‘Ride The Sky’ Quick Review

So, I’ve just had a chance to watch Fallen Footwear’s flick, Ride The Sky, and I thought I’d give it a quick review. As I was sliding the DVD into the drive I had a feeling that this was going to be a pyrotechnics free, skate-purists film with no thought given to a wider, non-skate, more commercial audience. And in many respects, I was right. That isn’t a bad thing though. Both the direction (by Jamie Thomas and Mike Gilbert) and the filming impressed me a hell of a lot. Although the soundtrack wasn’t my style, the opening part from Tommy Sandoval set to Tin Soldier by Small Faces was awesome and I was hooked through to Chris Cole’s ender. My favorite parts were definitely Gilbert Crockett, James Hardy and Billy Marks. Are there any critisisms? Only a couple of minor ones – the shots of Chinese soldiers, every video seems to have them now. And all the mentions of God in the thank you’s (it’s my own personal gripe, they can thank who they want but the Richard Dawkins in me screams every time I see it). All in all, this is the best skate film I’ve seen since Fully Flared and is definintely one to add to the collection.
