The Top Stories Of 2010

Just a quick look back at 10 of the top stories on Pop over the last year… These are not calculated by any means other than my memory of what was rad and what stood out. There’s plenty more happened that deserves a mention but here’s a start…

10. 2010’s Terrain Park and Hotham’s Woes
The first annual Park Page went live and created a bit of a competition in the parks… However some persistent issues remained for some of the mountains. This was an anonymous posting by a reader to let everyone know some of the inner workings at Hotham. Be interesting to see what 2011’s park page reveals.

9. Olympians Swimwear Shoots for Sports Illustrated
Sports Illustrated celebrated the Olympics by getting some of the female athletes to pose in bikinis… Obviously had the right idea judging by the reaction online.

8. Nyah Huston Wins Street League
Season one was epic. Dyrdek and his team pulled off an amazing competition. The youngest competitor and last to sign on, Nyah Huston, was consistent across the events and walked away with the $100,000 championship watch and ring. Amazing effort!

7. Vancouver Olympics
February saw the Vancouver Winter Olympics go down and tell me you weren’t glued to your monitor looking for updates. Shaun White’s epic run to secure the gold was incredible to watch live. NBC suck for not having their legit version of this video on YouTube.

6. Shaun White Interview
We worked hard last summer to kick the year off with Shaun White on the cover. The interview came out better than we could have hoped and Shaun really put some time into it. Was stoked to have him on the cover!

5. David Thorne Interview
This got a tonne of comments – A little article about internet prankster David Thorne for the April edition got a lot of people riled… Potentially some people caught in one or two of Thorne’s jokes.

4. Shane O’Neill’s Berrics Video Part
The build up to this release was all time and the actual part when put up online didn’t disappoint. It took me three days of trying to actually get the download to work with the Berrics site struggling under the weight of all the traffic. If you haven’t seen it yet, you really need to.

3. Chad Muska Interview
One of the finest examples of Steele Saunder’s interviewing skills and the depth of his skateboard trivia knowledge. Muska gave up a tonne of time to help us get this right even down to getting us photos to run. The interview is amazing – if you’ve been around skateboarding for 10 years or more, you’ll love it.

2. Cattlemans Rail Jam After Party Photos
This was one of the most hit posts for the whole year – always an entertaining contest, despite the consistently challenging weather. The after party was a massive hit and everyone had a rad night… Here’s the evidence.

1. Andy Irons Dies From Dengue Fever
The biggest story of the year. The death of A.I. was so shocking that, for really the first time, all mainstream media became involved and followed the story with as much shock and saddness as the rest of us did.
