Dan Currie is the younger brother of one of Australia’s better known riders and park builders, Jason Currie. Dan has been around for a while but started gaining attention on a snowboard two seasons ago – this year he joins Matt Galina, Tye Clark, Gus St Leon and his brother on the 3CS Outerwear team. We got a hold of the below ‘welcome to the team’ clip and shot Dan a few questions…
Hey Dan – thanks for taking the time to talk to us. Gives us a quick run down on you…
Hello, I’m a 21 year old with a bad snowboard addiction. I grew up in Ballarat, Victoria. I spent all my time as a teenager on a skateboard and hanging out with friends. That was until I fell in love with snowboarding. I have been super fortunate to grow up under my brother Jase, he is the main reason behind all the support that has followed me and my snowboarding. When it comes down to gear, 3CS for outerwear, 3RD Chapter for clothes, Radical Gloves, Renegade and Olliepop films. I’m stoked for having support from so many awesome people.
How’s your season been so far? Where have you been riding? Are you shooting photos with anyone?
I have been having a really good season here in Canada. Big White is so much fun to go out and shred with all your buddies, nothing too serious just fun and you know that you can send it off everything. I work park crew here so I get to enjoy a really fun park and learn lots of new tricks. I have been filming a bit in Kelowna and up on mountain with Mathew Galina, Tom Honey and a few others. I have only just found a few guys that are super keen to go out and take some photos so hopefully I can go back to Aus with a bunch of good shots.
What’s the plans for the coming season in Australia?
I’m not too sure… Falls Creek is calling me back. Ruben Cameron and Matto Smith killed it pushing our parks up last year and Falls Creek has the best vibe up on the hill. I would love to compete and travel a lot more – I love meeting people that live the snow dream. It is the best lifestyle ever!!!
Is 3CS your first sponsor? How did that hookup come about?
Mathew Galina always gave me Renegade bandannas before I even really started snowboarding. I ride and hang out with Jeremy Burns so just through being friends he started to help me out with gloves and now hooks me up. My brother has always given me his hand-me-downs, which happened to be 3CS. It always blew me away that Jase would wear gear for a season then I would wear it for a couple and it would then move onto one of my friends. Jaye Botfield offered to sponsor me so I jumped on it – I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Any shoutouts before we let you go?
I would love to thank 3CS, 3RD Chapter, Radical gloves, Olliepop films and Renegades. I could never thank my brother enough for everything. Thanks Mathew Galina you have helped me so much with every thing from riding to general life. There are honestly too many awesome people to thank. So, thanks to every one who has helped me out or just put a smile on my face…….. Thanks for the interview popmag!
