No excuse for this late post, I have been sitting on the couch resting my ass for the last few days. Maybe it’s because I struggle to get much done when Alice isn’t around. The Air and Style was the biggest event I have ever done and with the best riders in the world, so it was a scary week. The jump was great, it was built super well, I would say it was pretty much perfect… But the landing was almost solid ice. I knew there would be no point being there unless I was going to do a double so i practiced a few in Breck before I went over. I cruised first day of practice then tried a couple doubles on the second day of practise. On my third attempt I over rotated and landed right on my back. I couldn’t breathe for what felt like an hour, then had trouble moving. After being helped up, I tried to walk it off but could only hobble. The contest is such a big event they have their own doctors, who took me to the hospital to get checked out. After having about six guys touch my ass they said I had internal bleeding in my ass like a hematoma. I was thinking there would be no chance that I’d be able to compete, but the next morning after a little physio and pain killers I was feeling good. I decided I was not going to miss the comp so just did some straight airs in practice. I had to drop first and being up there in front of 30,000 people about to do a trick that I just smashed my self doing was one of the scariest times of my life. “Robbie, you’re drooping strap in…” I rushed to strap in, then standing there ready “Robbie three minutes” – that was the longest three minutes of my life! I had two chances to get the double but couldn’t put it down, happy to be there and happy to be alive. I had fun and front threed for the last run. Thanks to Billabong and Woody for a fun trip. The whole trip was filmed so should have an edit up soon.
