Well after all the stress of not being able to get the live webcast thing to actually be live, I feel we here at POP have to redeem ourselves a little. So while we’re editing down the footage of the event, I thought I’d post some photos and a little teaser video to hold you over until we can get the video of the event up on the site Monday night.
The Burton Rail Event was easily one of the best rail events Australia has ever seen. Being held on an actually street rail, it’s not hard to see why. Mt Buller brought the epic setup (which included a drop-in ramp for speedy gap-to’s) and Burton brought 10 of Australia’s best snowboarders:
Marc Baker
Chris Boadle
Max Cookes
Chris Eacott
Alex Kutaysov
Aaron Maxwell
Tom Pelly
Nick Rochester
Robbie Walker
Mikey Williams
Chris Boadle and Mikey Williams took out equal 1st place and $1000 cash each (yep cash; in a suitcase!). Chris Boadle killed it with epic 270 gap-to-rail combos and a bullshit nollie gap-to back lip on the side rail. Mikey was large and in charge as always. He was the first to try the gap option and also the side kink rail which was pretty much a land first go. Other stand outs were Max Cookes’ massive 270 gap-to switch frontside boardslides, Chris Eacott’s fakie backtail’s and Robbie Walkers frontside 270 to something inbetween-a-frontside-boardslide-and-a-frontside-noseslide . Youngsters Tom Pelly and Nick Rochester put in a solid debut effort and are names to watch for fo’ sure! The only real injury of the night happened when the already injured (he had a previously broken hand in a cast) Marc Baker caught the lip of the jump and went down hard on the stairs.
Now get these into your eyeballs!

[TEASER MISSING]
A little teaser for the full coverage of the event that we’ll be posting later Monday night.
Thanks to Marcus for the video and most of the photos. Sorry to make you hold a camera in the freezing cold. Don’t worry, your fingers will grow back I’m sure.
