Cardrona hosted the Winter Games snowboard big air today in pretty amazing conditions. The win was up a little towards the end of the comp but the sun was out and the skies were blue. It was held on a huge jump (size TBC) that was in full view of the village giving a large crowd a great view of the action. The day was won by Maxence Parrot of Canada for the mens followed by Antoine Truchon also from Canada and Milu Malthaup-Appleton from New Zealand. The top placed Australian was Jackson Collings in position 12 who absoletly sent it on his final jump… I can’t remember exactly what it was (cab 9 maybe?) but it was awesome. Nick Wood wasn’t far behind in position 14 and Tim Laidlaw came in at 45. Jacob Koia went big the whole day as well. It seemed like a stylish variation of a 9 was the trick for the men to stomp to be in the running. There were some bigger tricks (like the backside double cork 1080 and 1260 mute grab from Parrot), but overall it seemed it was a well executed 9 that was scoring better.
There was a much smaller field in the womens but again, it was style of spins that were scoring. First went to German Silvia Mittermueller followed by local Abby Lockhart who, along with third placed local Shelly Gotlieb, was getting a lot of support from the crowd and commentators. There were no Australians competing in the womens event.
