Dane Reynolds Melbourne Premier

Me and my band of fellow free-beer, surf video loving warriors went a long to the Melbourne premier of Dane Reynolds new Quiksilver’s film, First Chapter. Whilst not quite as good as the Christian Hosoi and Arto Saari mini ramp session that was the US premier, the movie was pretty good. So good in fact that I bootlegged the entire intro section (shown above)! See below for more pictures and first impressions of the film.

Keep in mind that I was watching this film at a crowded bar with all kinds of shenanigans going on (see below). However, my first impression of First Chapter is that it’s a no-bullshit modern day surf movie with none of the ‘lifestyle’ or half arsed skits in it that are so preverlent in a lot of videos these days. I thought this was First Chapters main strength. That and Ry Craike’s section which was amazing. Worth mentioning, and this is oming from a kid that works in a surf shop and is pretty much paid to sit around a watch surf videos all day, the soundtrack on First Chapter was refreshing with tunes from the likes of Modest Mouse, Blonde Redhead and Fugazi. I even heard a song that was on the classic snowboard video Subject Haakonsen.

The start of the shenanigans I told you about. Why wouldn’t you bring your knitting gear to a surf video premier?

It gets worse…

Yep…
