Shaun White has got a flavor of gum out for Stride called Whitemint. Having any athlete sponsor a product like gum is, according to the New York Times, unusual because the product generally sells on more tangible effects like teeth whitening. The company is hoping that White’s endorsement of the product will appeal to a younger audience … The full explanation of the commercial (see below) and its purpose can be read in the article but it’s not that interesting and it’s way off base. Apparently you guys will like the below commercial because, and I quote, ‘poking fun at marketers appeals to younger consumers‘. Yup, I think the ad agency needs to update the playbook. Still, props to White for the deal, some of the only other celebrities to have done it are the Williams sisters, Marlon Wayans and LeBron. That’s some good company to be keeping.
