Google has done a deal with Oakley and Ray Ban to bring their Glass product onto their frames. For those that haven’t yet seen it, check out the video explaining Glass above… I’ve tried it out and at this stage I’m not sure what the benefit would be to most people. Aside from the weight and size of the Glass components that would be needed on the frame, there’s really only limited apps at the moment. There could be some interesting uses in goggles – certainly way better than the heads up displays I’ve seen in some goggles to date – but I’m skeptical as to how valuable this tech is as the moment.
There’s no details as yet on when we will see the styles from Oakley and Ray Ban but the consumer release of Glass is scheduled for the end of this year and you would have to assume that they’d want one or two products ready to go by then.
