Matix just sent me a cool little interview with Andreas Wiig. The interview is part of a Matix Monthly news update and Wiig talks about his deal with Toyota, filming with Standard and his Norwegian event. Although he does mention having a place with his girlfriend in Hollywood, he fails to mention she is a Norwegian pop star (see Andreas in one of her clips here). The whole interview is below the cut so click here to check it out!
1. With Mack Dawg going away, you decided to hire your own filmer and create your own webisodes. I also heard you have been filming with Standard films? Who is your crew, where have you been, and how is it all going?
When I heard that Mack Dawg was done making movies I didn’t really know what to do in the beginning. A part of why Mack Dawg is done making movies is because so many people are downloading the movie for free, and therefore the DVD sales have dropped every year. It seems like everyone spends more and more time on the internet nowadays, and I thought it was a good time to start my own web site. I wanted my web site to be good and entertaining, and therefore I hired my own filmer for the year. That way I can showcase what my life is about as a pro snowboarder and show other stuff than just my banger shots from the year. I think people are interested in seeing what is going on behind the scenes at contests and when we’re filming in the backcountry.
Standard Films was interested to film with me this year, and that sounded like a really good opportunity. I talked to my friend Torstein Horgmo last season about filming with him this year, and I super stoked we could be in the same crew this year. He’s such an amazing rider, and I think he’s going to push me to ride better. The first part of this season I have been struggeling with an injured ankle and back so I haven’t really ridden much in between the contest. Therefore I didn’t start filming before last week. This week it’s been going pretty good, and I’ve started getting some shots. Super fun to ride powder in the back country again.
2. How is your new Toyota Tundra and new Ski Doo Summit 800 treating you?
The new Tundra is awesome! I started riding for Toyota this season, and they provided me with a pimped up truck. Can’t get much better than that. I’ve just broken in the new Ski Doo now and it’s fast and angry for sure. Time to start pinning it…
3. Tell us about your new website andreaswiig.com
My website just launched last week. I wanted a web site with a lot of content where people can check in on what I’ve been up to lately. I’ll try to update it as often as I can, and new webisodes will be posted asap! So check it out!
4. What’s is going on with the Andreas Wiig Invitational in Norway? What kind of contest is it. When and where?
It’s actually going to be called Nordic X Elements, and it will be the first year we’re doing it. It’s taking place in the most popular resort in Norway, and it’s going to happen in the busiest week of Easter Holiday. Nordic X Elements is a big air contest where we will put a lot of effort into building the jump as perfect as possible. I want it to be a true table jump that gives you good airtime. At the same time it will be a jump that is pretty safe and fun to ride. My main goal is that it’s going to be really fun for the riders. The dates are April 3rd to April 5th, and the resort is called Geilo (about 3.5 hours drive from Oslo). So book your tickets now!
5. What’s it like having a house in Oslo Norway and one in Hollywood?
It’s good to have a home over here in the States as well as in Norway. My girlfriend lives in the house in Hollywood, but I don’t really get to go there a lot since I travel so much. But once in a while I get to spend a couple of days there and it’s always a good time. I pretty much only get to go to my place in Oslo in the summer and during Christmas. It’s a top floor apartment with a big deck so I always have a lot of barbeque parties there with all my buddies back home. The summer in Oslo is amazing, even though it’s really short.
6. Where are you now? and where do you go next?
Right now I’m in Mammoth, and pretty beat up after a couple of days of filming in the backcountry. Now it’s supposed to dump around here for a couple days. Powder! Don’t know where I’m going next, but it looks like it’s going to get really good here soon. Might be a good idea to stay around.
