Issue 12 Behind The Scenes – Thruxton Shoot

issue12-behind-the-scenes-027

Here’s some more behind the scene’s photos of how Steve Gourlay got the shot of the Triumph Thruxton 900 on page 22 of issue 12. The was actually a lot more that went in to shooting Triumph than what eventually made it into the magazine. You see, we have a whole 8 pages of denim fashion editorial that we had to cut, along with some interviews, to fit the content we had into the magazine. More of the story below the cut.

So the day Steve shot the Thruxton review photo, we also shot the 8 pages of the denim editorial with the motorcycle as well. So whatever location we used, had to work for both as the bike was a display bike and couldn’t be ridden. Dave actually scouted a few disused petrol stations around Melbourne. I was overseas at the time and would get google maps links or iphone photos of various sketchy places around Melbounre. None of them quite looked right. Then on his way back from the Mornington Penninsula Dave passed this run-down kinda-abandoned petrol station right on the side of the Nepean Highway in Chelsea. It was great. We spent all day there in a brillantly sunny day and Steve got all the shots we needed. So keep an eye out for the Thruxton again in the next issue as hopefully we’ll be able to use the denim guide.
