Shop Stop: ’09 Snow Gear

picture-24

This is going to be a regular-ish article about what’s going on with new product in a selection of stores. This week we’re doing 2009 outerwear with Troy from Mordys in Victoria and Mike from One Track Mind in Crows Nest. I emailed the guys a series of questions about the new gear that has landed in their stores over the last few weeks, best-sellers, staff picks, etc. Check below the cut to see the items the guys selected and info about them…

Troy at Mordys was first to hit me back. At their store, Analog has been the best selling outerwear so far this season.

1. This is the Analog Perimeter Jacket in Stratus Blue – one of the most popular jackets at Mordys. It’s a 10,000mm jacket with fully taped seams, adjustable fulltime hood, removable powder skirt and adjustable wrist cuff.

The ‘Staff Pick’ items were just the items that the store staff were liking the most. Burton featured pretty heavily for Mordys staff – these are items that the staff are stoked on at the moment and hence, will probably be sold out pretty quickly…

1. The Burton Love Jacket – Being worn by Chris Decampo this year. It features Fully Taped Seams, Printed Satin LOVE Lining System and Relaxed Fit. 2. Tom Pelley is riding the Burton Love Boards this year. Here’s the description that comes with the board “Hi. My name is Love™ and I’m on the market for someone who’s looking to score serious action, no matter where they like to stick it. I enjoy laps through the park; long, hard grinds on my meaty Park Edges followed by a good, hot waxing.”  3. Burton Ozone Boot – “From the start, team riders Mason, Mikkel, and Downing demanded the boot be soft yet supportive, with a shorter footprint, tons of cushioning, and stupid-simple lacing.”

Mike at One Track Mind tells me that it’s too early to make a call on bestsellers with his customers buying evenly across the brands – Mike is pretty diverse with his range, stocking everything from Burton to Holden Outerwear. The staff there are loving the Special Blend and Four Square gear at the moment. This was an item from the Four Square line that has been recommended to me…

1. This is the Four Square ‘Steveo’ Jacket in Athletic/Heather. It features 15,000mm waterproofing, stowable clava, fused seams and rag doll protection.

As I mentioned at the beginning, we’ll be doing these regularly with different stores to get an idea of who’s doing what and where. Over time we’ll develop ideas on changes in style across the country and see how the generalisations that we all make about styles pan out. From the above responses, it’s obvious that Burton and it’s associated brands have got a strong line in 2009! Thanks to Troy and Mike for the input. See below for contact details for each of their stores and check back over the next week for a spotlight on the skate shops and products across the country.
