There’s nothing that get’s me more hyped than a great song choice in a video. It’s not just the big budget, energy drink backed blockbusters that can get it really right either… Any kid with god taste has a chance to improve their GoPro-selfie-stick footage by getting some good sounds going with it. From all the posts we have done this year, here’s a selection that got the beats really right.
1. Son Lux – Lost It To Trying (For Me)
As mentioned a few times over the last couple of months, this teaser way over-sold the actual film. But it was an epic song choice. Perhaps not so epic that you could then double it for the ender part, but in the teaser, this thing killed.
2. Bag Raiders – Nairobi (Shred Bots The Movie)
This song brings us into the Meribel resort section after Torstein’s broken collar bone – and, here’s the weirdest sentence I’m likely to type in a while, it’s epic use of a xylophone.
3. John Farnham – You’re The Voice (ManBoys Teaser)
This is more comedic than anything else – fitted perfectly with their setup.
4. Busta Rhymes – Break Ya Neck (Seb Toots Sunset Films Clip)
Not that the riding in this clip needed any assistance to make it look good, but this song pushed it over the top into new realms of epic.
5. Alt-J – Fitzpleasure (Heavy Mental teaser)
This song on its own isn’t that epic but when paired with the Absinthe crews amazing footage and stylish editing, it becomes something else. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve watched this one.
6. Buffalo Flower – The Mynabirds (Find Teaser)
Again, this is a little different to the hype up songs but for a web series that was all about travel and adventure, this seemed to fit really nicely.
Now, I realise that six is a weird number to finish on but I have been back through all posts from the year and can’t really find anything else that’s as good as these. I’ve dropped them into a Spotify playlist you can listen to here.
